Become A PEER Partner

Our needs at different parts of our journey are different.  Often an individual with a brain injury or their caregiver is looking for someone who can help with isolation, hope, fun, friendship.  Often people express wanting to improve their social skills.

The social mentor’s role is to help their peer partner develop satisfying social activities and relationships. The relationship between the social mentor and the peer partner also improves the quality of life for both individuals. There are steps to becoming a PEER Partner. We’ve outlined them here:

  1. Contact BEST and tell us your interested.  Connect via phone, email or filling out the PEER Partner Information Form
  2. Understand what an Empowerment Coach does
  3. Check out and complete the PEER Partner Information Form
  4. Arrange Intake Interview and screening
  5. Complete the PEER mentoring Partner Matching Form
  6. Sign agreement to participate
  7. Interview with the Support Coach
  8. Matched – support coach arranges the first meeting via in person, telephone, online meeting
  9. Create an Action Plan using the Moving On:  (This is not a defined amount of time needed for this.. could be a week or a year and depends on the person)
  10. Invited to workshops on the following Topics
    • Working with TBI: Business Skills
    • BRAIN BOOK strategies
    • Healthy Brain/Happy Brain
    • Leadership and advocacy
  11. Graduation

The first step to getting a mentor is to complete an application to participate. Your application will be reviewed by staff and you’ll be invited for a conversation about pairing you with a mentor.
